How GIS has changed the interpretation of prehistoric sites

With the advent of electronic computer technology in the mid 20th century, hand-drafted map data began to be converted into digital format. Now, Geographic Information Systems (GIS) allow archaeologists to store, manage and manipulate many sets of data in a series of map layers, to reveal secrets of landscapes which were previously masked and undecipherable.
